Hope the problem is fixed witht he software update. Nothing worst than rough idling on these cars. Well I can think of much worst but lets not go there...

update:

got the car back today. talked to the SA on the phone and he said it was a software issue. updated the software and cleaned up the inside (instructed them to not touch the outside)

i havent cold started it yet but i will tomorrow morning so that will be the true test. he says he has seen other 5 series with the same issue and the update corrected the problem.

we'll see i guess.

My two cents!

My 06 330i did the same thing during the first start of the morning. It would only happen if it was warm the night before and the temperature would drop considerably overnight. I videotaped the surge and emailed it to my SA. I brought the car in and it was reprogrammed.

Since then I never had the surging happen again. Car started differently as well, it would hold revs longer initially then drop down to normal.
