the-oneil,

Out of interest how much is it costing you to have the Aux input retrofit?
Not sure if I can retrofit on my December 2003 E60.

Cheers

They called me saying that the car is not starting after the upgrade

An error occured and they'll keep it till Tuesday to see what is the problem. Should I be worried now :'( or mad

They supplied me with a brand new E90 over the new year, and the Aux is not costing me anything as it was part of the deal when I bought the car.

On second thought, I wish I did not take for the upgrade - I am afraid they'll cause a permanent damage!!! Car not starting

Since were on the subject of Aux input....how good is the kit for the Ipod that plugs into the cigarette lighter, then you have to find a blank FM station to access your mp3's......Any opinions?????? Thanks.

Hi, When dealer upgrade car ,they conect charger to battery (voltage must more 12.73).if during programing DME voltage some higher then 14 or less than 12.73 the CIP station give fault.there for some times your dealer can't program DME again and car not starting.

I took my car in early moring today to retrofit an Aux input to use with my iPod. dealer told me it should be ready by the end of the day.

Except, they called me near the end of the day to say, it is not as simple as fitting the Aux input as the car needs to be plugged into the computer overnight for a software update to enable the Aux input. I will ave to rebook the car in to fit the Aux input socket itself ( a 2 hours job).

Is this right

I am not paying for the honours as the dealer promissed to fit the Aux input as part of the deal.

Your thoughts on this guys !
the-oneil,

Just curious as to why you choose the aux input for your ipod and not the ipod interface adapter? With the ipod adapter you have much more control over the ipod and your ipod will charge while you use it.

Disadvantages of iPod adapter:

1. Lose CD changer
2. Only works with ipods. AUX input will work with any audio source. What if his iPod breaks, and he doesn't want another iPod?

1. No loss. CD Changers are ancient technology at this stage
2. Not a problem either. iPods are head and shoulders above the competition and here to stay.

What the heck - I'll weigh in.

On the original thread --- my dealer has kept my car overnight for a software upgrade. I don't think they do it overnight (as someone earlier suggested). It just takes a bloody long time because of the slow interface and error prone nature of the process. There are a lot of manual steps. My dealer has been really good at doing them and appear to do them right.

1) agreed.
2) I have an aux input which I use with my iPod. I understand that the dedicted iPod interface is limited to only 6 specially named playlists. I find the safest and most flexible interface is to play mp3's off CD's or DVD's. Assuming your folders are reasonably organized, it's pretty easy to find songs and albums using the iDrive screen. That way, I'm not looking at the iPod (dangerous) or limited to just 6 playlists.

I'll be a happy camper when I can use the iDrive to completely control the iPod. Haven't seen that yet.

Cheers.
