So, it's my birthday and I wanted to joy ride in my dealers M3 but it wasn't available. So I took a 335i with manual 6 speed/sport/premium/yadda yadda out for a spin on the autoban with a coworker at lunch. My first impression was, "wow, this is small inside." It was tight and sporty. I got it on the road and noticed the power immediately. Once on the autoban, I was doing ~110 MPH and was still on 5th gear. I stretched it to 150 before I had to slow down for traffic. Compared to my '07 525, it had lots of power. It seemed to have excess power available no matter what gear I was in or what speed I was going. When I got back, the dealer told me it was governed at 154 MPH and gave me a little crap for only getting to 150 MPH!

All in all, I am glad I got the e60. I really like the space compared to the 335i sedan. I supposed I would get used to the smaller size, but I enjoy the bigger car. I do like the power, but in the states, I don't think you would ever see 6th gear in normal driving. It was fun, maybe I will find a 535i to trade for before going back to the states in Dec 2010....Hmmmm...

Now, I have to thank my dealer. Not many dealers would let you take out a $40K car knowing you were only going for a birthday joy ride on the autoban at 150MPH!

Ooh, yes you will! Gas prices being what they are, I typically go straight from third/fourth to sixth.

Remember he's coming from 8-9 dollars per gallon so what we pay is nothing.

I had a 335 sedan for 2 weeks as a loaner and while it was fun, I sure was glad to turn it back in!

Oh yea it will be relevant because he's likely to drive a lot more miles thanks to our lack of a public trasportation system.

The reason why I got my e60 is because I loved the way my brothers BMW 335i manual 6 speed drives. Once someone drives a BMW how could you even want anything less. The 335i is also an amazing car of the BMW fam. BTW: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Wow... that sales rep at the dealership sounds pretty cool!! Like you, I would take the extra space and luxury of the 5 over the 3 series, but then again...... I got the 535. Best of both worlds
