This passed weekend i went for a drive and came to a sharp turn and i skidded across the opposite side of the street while flying through the canyons at 2am i was shocked because i normally average 60-70mph going down hill i know this canyon really well so this was a scary feeling to skid across the lanes. Yesterday a Van got in my lane and i cut the ass off and the light turned red and when i applied my brakes from 60 mph-0 the tires lost traction and TIRE SQUEAL real loud i was embraced but i still flicked the guy off. I took my car in for new tires but the tires are good

during the rainy season this passed December i was testing my DTC/DSC i raced up to 70 mph and applied (Slammed) my brakes really hard and car stopped on a dime with no loss of traction


a friend suggested i get new shocks


Would it be time for new shocks at 70k miles and if i had bad shocks would this contribute to my Active steering not being responsive while completing a "U" turn with less effort at the wheel

wow that sounds bad... if the thread is good ummm dumb suggestion... but did you check the tire pressure? Runflats can look normal w/out air in them...

 

last i checked it was 32 psi front and 35 psi rear

 

The shocks might be a little off by 70k miles but they shouldn't be causing traction issues like that. Shocks don't contribute to spring rates. If they are worn, you would just notice extra bounce over bumps or maybe delayed responses in an S curve. I'd more suspect tire pressures or odd tire wear. Do check that all lug bolts are tight. But that would be noticed as an odd wiggle.

 

i do feel bumps hard as if my car is hitting the floor and at 60 mph and up i feel a slight mellow vibration from tires, possible it could be a combination of both

 

you might just need better performance tires then what you are currently running

 

Its possible the tyre compound has gone off slightly as well, maybe gone a little hard and stiff, is the car parked in hot temperatures and bright sunlight a lot ?

How old are the tyres and what brand/spec ?

 

you have a good point, lately it has been hot in Southern California along with a few earthquakes my tire brand are NEXEN N3000 i am estimating 15k miles .

 

Its not beyond the realms of possibility then, but be sure to check out your pressures and other stuff people mentioned of course

 

Ah there you go... with off brands, the tire compound might not have been developed and tested to stand up to heat and cold as well. Many times, you pay for what you get.
