So basically when I replace my run-flats use the same exact size, width as the original?
basic tire terms

225/50/17

225 = width of the tire in mm's
50 - ratio of the sidewall to width
17 - rim diameter

you can not change the rim diameter - only 17's will go on 17's

The problem is that rims are measured in inches (17 x 8), etc - and width is measured in mm's

so it is possible to change the width of the tire to narrower or wider and stay with the same rim - most rim muanfacturers will have a range of widths that will fit

I have a 550 with sport package (18" rims) Can I put a 19" tire without getting new rims?

Go here http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html to see what you can & can't do.
You also could go to here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/tec...&currentpage=46 to get some additional information.

You probably should just call Tire Rack and they will tell you what tire sizes you can put on your current rims or what size new rims & tires you can fit on your car without screwing things up.

Good info especially the first link.

Regarding the topic the answer is no. I also thought about putting 255 tires on my back, knowing that i have the 135M rims with 245/40 R18 both F/B. As you can see it can't be done, not without messing with the spedometer reading and maybe even the stability of the car. The best way i presume is to change the rims to 19's and with the oem setup (245/35 R19 F and 275/30 R19 That way i assume nothing goes wrong, the reading of the spedometer stays the same and the car's handling and looks are improved.
