I have a 2006 550 with sports package, bridgestone run-flats, anyone know what the correct cold-tire pressure is for these tires?

Look on the sticker on the driver's B pillar.

Yes and check the pressures once a month.

There has been some indications that the tires (espesially the RF's)
do not keep the pressure.

The manual also quotes it, but I don't recall. On the 550 they suggest different pressure for 4 people or less versus 4 people and luggage...higher pressure with the heavier load. I think light load up to 100 mph is 29 lbs front and 33 lbs rear. They recommend even higher pressure for over 100 mph. After reading it I remember thinking it was so much more complicated than that of my e39, which I think juist had 1 pressure indicated. Just went and checked the door. It shows 30 front 35 rear, while the manual reflects what I noted above. So, go figure. I guess whatever you do, keep the fronts a little less than the rear if you have the offset setup.

Also, don't forget to reset your tire pressure moniter in I-drive each and every time you adjust tire pressure.

I have the same set-up and the B-pillar sticker says 30 psi Front & 35 psi Rear.

Check out what the manual says. It may provide more detail than the pillar; I don't recall for sure. I think the BMW "correct" pressures are what the Company believes to be the safest driving pressures. I sometimes run 34/32 rear/front or even a bit lower in the city. And, sometimes I run 30 all around in the city. If one runs suboptimal pressures, then some more rapid or uneven tire wear may occur, but I say set the pressures the way they feel the best to you--within reason.

One of the key advantages of BMW is their focus in maintaining a balanced height between front and rear axels (50% on each). Can anyone explain me why there is such a difference in recomended tire pressure for front and rear wheels?

The pillar is supposed to be more relevant (in the USA) than the manual as it is current as of build date where the manual is printed about ONCE a year.

After so much discussion about cold psi I went with the information thats on the door pillar. 36 front 44 rear cold.I got 11,000 + miles on the Dunlop RFT's without any problems and good tire wear.Just make sure you check the psi cold every few weeks, they do lose pressure. The ride is a little harsh but thats the way I like it.IMO it should be like that with the sports package
cheers
