Can anyone say what forces the Nav to replan a route to avoid a TMC traffic delay?

Is there some severity factor or time delay estimate for each one that we as users don't get to see?

TMC info should include average speed/estimated delay info. You should see that in the traffic info messages.

I suspect the nav algorithm recalculates the route dynamically and comes up with a suggestion if it finds a better alternative, but it does not work as TMC estimates are normally very wide of the mark! <_<

Not on the likes of "lane closed" or "contraflow". So from your assesment these events are for information and probably not worth avoiding by dynamic rerouting.

My NavMan TMC nav gives me the option whether I want to dynamically reroute around a TMC event or not (or auto).

Never seen an estimated time delay TMC event.
