i just received a recall letter from bmw canada regarding this probelm. advice not use heated seats until the situation is looked at, and to book a service appointment asap.

The recall is limitedto a realtively small window of production dates. The specifics are in an earlier thread. You can call BMWNA or have your dealer check by your VIN.
