997 is Porsche's internal designation (much like E60 is BMW's for the 5 series). The 997 is the latest generation of the 911, for the US it's essentially cars built from 2005 onwards. My Carrera S is a 997.

Take care Pablo. In case you are wondering the Idrive in the 2008 is reall fun to use once you learn how to use it. It's pretty fast and the bluetooth is awesome. It's so fast that I insert a CD with 146 mp3 songs on it and it comes up ready for you to use immediately. Click on a song and it's playing right away. I have had some problems with the car from inception and it's being replaced. Other than that the engine is remarkable. I need to take it easy sometimes because I catch myself pushing the engine just because I can. 300hp with 300lbs of torque at 1400 rpm's is fast. Well anyway good luck with the new truck.
