I was just in the dealer for "vehicle check". I knew that my front lower tension struts need replacement due to the feeling when driving over hard bumps (like 1 inch lips). One of complaints that i asked them to check was that when I do a "emergency" stop from 2 mph the car seems to activate the anti lock feature of the brakes and not just stop. The dealer claims the brakes are fine but the bushings in the tension struts need to be replaced. I have not seen any one talk about the tension struts bushing slop causing brakes feel issues. Any comments on those who have done this. I have a 2008 M-sport 550i with 75,000 miles.

Problems with suspension can cause strange response from brakes.
My tension strut bushings need to be replaced also. When I brake from 5 mph I can feel the wheel moving a bit to the back.
It should be pretty easy DIY project if you replace the whole arm

Did they give you a quote for that job?

the quote to do just the bushings was $585 with no alignment. 195 for the alignment. I already have the whole arm in my garage and have just not got around to actually doing it. Thanks for the info.

what sound would this make when it goes bad? I was thinking my right side strut is making some noise at times when going over a bump , like a hallow type sound.

I had that clunking sound before and fixed the problem , it was a bushing up front that run for about 75 dollars each from the dealer and have to be pressed into the arm.

My wife's Mercedes did this, it turned out to be a wheel speed sensor that didn't work below 5 mph. I thought they either worked or didn't, but evidently they can fail only at low speeds. I can't imagine this would set a code, would need a road test with diagnostics attached to find this I would think.
