My 2004 530i is out of warranty and the phone doesn't work nor the SOS. I called BMW assist and they told me my TCU has been off since 2004. Is this going to cost me an arm and a leg to get it working? Please help. Can I get a TCU from Ebay?

Well I hate to give you bad news... but my friend had tried to do the same and he discovered that it would be cheaper if he takes the repair cost if it happens

With 2004 cars, you got one year of BMW Assist included. If the service was not renewed, the TCU was basically turned off. There may not be anything wrong with the TCU but you will still likely need the dealer to re-activate it. Do a search here, someone had a thread about this exact subject, where their TCU was turned off and had to be turned back on by the dealer...
