My Ride: Mine: 2005 545i Sport Pkg, Black Saphire/Black, Nav, Chrome Wheels ---------- Wife's: 2007 335i Sport/Prem Pkg, White/Auburn, Nav

I've noticed the following on mine. I start it in my garage and the climate controls in auto (A/C off), go inside and get my lunch, etc. for the day (takes me about 1-2 min). When I get to the car..a few mins later, the heat is on but I notice that all of the air is blowing from the top -- not the upper body or the footwell, but the windshield. If it's in automatic climate I don't want to mess witht he iDrive vent settings. So now I start it and set the vents to the bottom and nothing on top. Once the car is totally warmed up I notice that I can turn on the Auto climate and it works fine.

Why is this? Does it assume that I'm outside and it's going to defrost the windshield first?

Maybe this is a little off topic....but since we are talking about the warming up of the car, and I have read a few threads about how there is no temp gauge in the dash cluster...just wondering is it just me or have you guys noticed that you can tell when the car is warmed up when you look at the lines on the RPM gauge down near the red line. When I first start the car and look at the redline area there are maybe 5 or 6 dashes there near the 6000 or 7000 rpm area...as the car warms up these dashes decrease and go down closer to the 7000 range.

Do you all see or understand what I am talking about...or have I completely lost my mind here?

Check the coolant level...

Pre-lci apparently had this along with m5 but was discontinued, believe with the '08 model. If your steed is of the earlier vintage then you don't need to see an optometrist.

That's fine, we've all been there. You've come to the right forum and will be up to speed in no time. Just ask away, that's what the forum is for, but don't forget the search function, even if it is somewhat annoying. Still, it is thru formulating questions and conversing thru the problems that you internalize the knowledge so better ask if the search is ambiguous, which it is more often than not (or maybe I'm just denser than most?).

You are right on the money as regards the variable "amber" zone on your tach. You can find an exact description on page 71 of the 2006 UK manual, available here: https://5series.net/information/
