My Ride: Alpine White/Biege 545i, CWP, Nav, Active Steering, Auto Step ordered 2/1/05
Here is the issue:
- Turn off the car with the sunroof open
- Let the electronics go to 'Sleep', i.e., leave the car turned off for 20-30 mins
- Turn on the car
- Try to close the sunroof.
For me, very often (50%-60%), the sunroof closes and immediately opens halfway. The only way to close the sunroof completely is to open it completely and then close it. Trying to close it when it is half open doesn't work.
Has anyone seen this issue?
Could be anecdotal, but I first saw this problem when I upgraded to Progman Level 27. Coincidentally, the CCC issue with the screen going dark also appeared with this upgrade.

This sounds as though its related to a problem I've had with my 2005 545i too. It has to do with the windblocker not setting down completely, and when the sunroof gets close to "closed", it senses an object in the way and just backs up to prevent damaging itself. It leads to a game of "Chicken" with my sunroof....will I get my fingers out of the way before the sunroof catches them??? Most likely its just a lubrication issue, but tell the dealer about it. Also my sunroof still "clunks" when I close it from the "vent" position and the dealer has tried a few times to fix that, to no avail. I believe there is a service bulletin out about it in fact. Either way, at least your not alone with your problem. Now, if they can just fix it!

I took the car in to the dealer y/day and the SA told me that they reset the Sunroof motor which should solve the problem. Haven't gotten a chance to test yet.
They also replaced the CCC for the blanking screen issue and upgraded the Progman.
Thanks for all your replies.

Before going to the dealer, you might want to try reinitializing the sunroof by following the directions posted here:

It can't hurt and may help...

I have a feeling that the dealer may have done exactly this on my car y/day. The SA mentioned that they had 'reinitialized the motor'.
