I just came back home and had the sunroof tilted. As i parked, i closed the sunroof and a huge "POP" noise was heard.opened then closed it again, same "POP" sound.
Inspected it well and it seems that when the sunroof is tilted, a metal piece goes up. During the closing, the sunroof comes in contact with this metal piece and pushes it down but somehow, its kind of slipping on it and poping it back to place.
Anyhow, can anyone link me to the reset combination for the sunroof so i can try it out?
Thx
Edit: Found SIB in Rudy's Gallery
The circled part isthe part i am talking about. I think its going higher then usual, thats why its slipping and POPing
Any fix to that?

On my 2004 car, I remember a similar "popping" sound that was taken care of by a technician carrying out a procedure at the recommendation of BMW. Believe it or not, I think the procedure was simply filing down a small amount of plastic off of some part.
That said, there is a service bulletin that addresses a similar issue on an X5. Not sure if it applies to the E60 but here it is anyway:

I had a similar issue when closing the sunroof from tilt position that it would catch that metal bar that you have pictured and give a loud POP sound.
I fixed this myself by applying some lubricant (Vasaline) along the entire metal bar. This basically stoped the sunroof from catching/grabbing the metal bar on it's way down into close position.
This fixed the problem for me. Worth a try since it doesn't cost anything other than a tub of vasaline or grease.

AHHH nice rich. WIll try that one too.But small question.
When the sonroof is going down and you have applied the Vaseline on it, werent you affraid that insteadof sliding into place it would rather slide and break the metal piece? Do you know what i mean? Dont know if you understood what i was saying but maybe you got the picture. I mean the sunroof would press down on the metal piece and the metal piece wouldnt go into place, rather stay out and be pressed on and break? could this happen. Here's a small picture, hope you get what i mean![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)

I am encountering the same issue with mine (weather just became warm enough for me to pop up the roof to the tilt mode).
I will try the "Vaseline Technique" (for the sunroof, not me pervs
) and report back.

If you find you the vasline wears off to quickly, just use a more durable lubricant...maybe silocone grease.
