If you have the tray thats fine but I use the glove box or center console since my E60 is a MY 06 and the tray was covered up from the MY04/05 models

Anywhere you want, it is your car. Just kidding.

I have mine in the protective case in the door pocket.

I put mine up in the sun visor pull it down place them towards you and close it works perfect.
+1. Of course, when I've left the car parked, they are always in the centre storage area, out of sight. Leaving anything in sight in this city will result in broken windows

The tray with rubber forward of the gear shift selector seems to work well.

+1 Works fine for me, too!

Unless your sunglasses are made from glass, you don't want to put them anywhere but their case. Polycarbonate, plastic and hi-index will all scratch to some degree. Our moto is "If it's not on your face, its in the case". They also risk bending and getting out of adjustment and you'll lose that nice fit. I'm assuming you have an expensive pair of glasses. It would look silly to be sitting in a 50K+ auto with a cheapo pair of suns.

Additionally, the time your eyes need protection from harmful UV rays is outside the car, so maybe you should consider wearing them at all times. I wear mine even on cloudy days. UV damage can lead to cataracts. Not good!
