I'm a fairly new owner of a 545i sport and am wanting to change wheels too. I have been all over the place regarding what wheel to have... 166, 167, 128 alpina etc etc and have been watching this forum avidly.

My main problem at the moment is finding definitve answers to all these offset questions for the rear ET17 vs ET28 etc. I am quite particular about how the car looks and wouldn't want the ET17 to make the rear of the car look like a formula 1 car. The car is also standard height but I may consider lowering. I do carry passengers and luggage too.

Does anybody have side on close up pictures of an e60 with ET17+ offsets so we can all see what the overall look is and whether we need to worry about rubbing?

Don't get me wrong - I've done lot's of searches but never found anything that allows me to take the plunge - Budget is also a problem so I am currently spying up some M6 167s with ET17 rear, but I don't want to buy them only to have my wheels arch ground .

I used to own a e39 540i6 sport and knew everything there was about this car, but finding info on the e60 is hard. still love the car though!!

545isheff welcome to the board!

Where are you located? If you have 545i sport I assume you mean w/ Sport Package? As you probably already know US car w/ SP comes w/ shadow line trim (blacked out door windows frame as oppose to chrome) if you have that then using either M166 or M167 w/ rear offset ET17 will be the best and you will not having any rubbing if you stay w/ non-M5 size tires (F=245/35/19 & R=275/30/19) most members here add rear spacer to achieve ET17 looks from the ET28. And w/ rear ET17 your wheel/tire will still tucked in nicely inside the rear fender nicely

Even if you consider lowering it even more w/ ET17 will not be a problem... bigger rear spacer than say 10mm will give even more aggressive look but with possible rubbing issue.

I agree and think I am going the 167 route with ET17 rears. I like the idea of OEM fitment plus I've heard that the 167's only weigh 20-22lb vs 32lb for my stock 124's.

I was wondering, if I get the 166M and put on the exact same size tires that they sit on for a factory M5 (F 255/40/19, R 285/35/19), will I need to do anything with regards to offsets, spacers, etc? Essentially, I'm wondering if I can just grab some factory M5 tires n wheels and slap em on my '08 535i Sport without any additional adjustments.

The backs will fit the fronts will rub, apparently the largest front tires you can use are 245/35/19 on 166's. I've been educated by several members this week on the same basic question.Good Luck

thanks for the knowledge...guess i'll have to go with that 245/35 setup for the fronts then. basically, i want to be able to put on some tires on the 166M wheels and not have to worry about fitment, rubbing, spacers, etc. just grab and go. is there anything else that will need to be done on these tires (i'm gonna purchase my tires at the local Discount Tire store here and have them do their wheel balancing, tire alignment, and whatever tests it is they do)?

The corresponding rears would be 275/30/19, some guys suggest going with a 12mm spacer or going with a 285 to make the rear wheel fill out the well . I'm sticking with the stock 550 Conti Sport 2's that come with the car from the factory.......Good luck

Thanks for the reply!! I'm about 95% there on pulling the trigger . You've given me the confidence i needed.

I'm from the UK (sorry not updated my avatar or anything yet). I have the mtech sport kit as standard (shadow line trim etc). It's a 6 speed semiauto - which takes some getting used to after a 6 manual, but I'm getting older and my left leg gets a rest in traffic now .

I'll keep you updated on how i get on.

I think they are each a very different look so you have to decide what you are going for. I just got a quote for each wheel, 166 are $1,500 and 167's are $2,200. 167's are low to mid 20lb range and 166 are 28lb. Your 124's are supposedly 32lb and the RFT tires are appox 32lb vs 25-27lb for non RFT. I'm not sure I want my car lower from a practical standpoint because I drive in town alot. At this moment I am considering 166's with 28 rear offset running Falken FK452 tires in the oversized sizes listed above. My tire guy said he would mount both sizes so we could check clearance and see how they look. With that being said I am still not committed to pulling that trigger today, not because of the money but because I want to be satisfied with my decision long term without regret. If I lower the car i would probably run a different wheel/tire combo and I have not ruled out lowering springs entirely.

Regards,

Bob
