I have 20mm spacers on my #166 19" setup.

I have a little trouble with the comments made about the huge strain on the suspension. 20 mm is approximately 5/6ths of an inch.

I am not sure that pushing the wheels out this much will hurt the vehicle. I am also not sure that the extended bolts will snap.

You might be right.
I just noticed the brakes that are not oem and the comfort seat headrest
Maybe he could solve the mystery once for all
We shall wait for his reply

If you get the M6 167's with the rear offset at ET17, you won't need any spacers !

167's rock !
+1....167's

His car is an m5.
Thats the reason why he put 20mm spacers and has no rubbing issues. Now try doing that on a non m e60 with the stock tire sizes for m5 you will rub no matter of the offset(either 28 or 17).
If you use 167s with ET17 you cant go bigger than 275/30 and thats it.Regarding ride height the sport suspension is the lowest you can go.
Now, with ET28 you can go 275/30 and even lower than the sport suspension. You can ideally use an 8mm spacer if i remember correctly and have the same setup as nicke60gr.
I hope this helps a bit.If anyone thinks i m wrong somewhere please correct me
it's correct, that's what I thought as well with regards to the non M5 E60.

Yeah, that's no M5 unless he painted his shadow trim chrome.

Anyway, I'd be cautious using this vehicle as a comparison to a standard sport package vehicle as the rear suspension looks modified which might be contributing to his ability to use the spacers.

Thanks for all of the info. My quest is ongoing as to my goal for the best looking, best handling 535i with stock sport suspension. Based on my observations I notice that M5's don't rally sit lower than my car (actual distance off of the ground is probably greater) but they look better because of tires with +1.5" diameter, the cars look (for lack of a better term) huskier. When you really look at any E60 535i, 528i or 550i sport I think the tire diameter looks out of scale, too small with sort of a skate board look if you push the wheels out too far with spacers. This size works if you lower the car to where the top of tire is = to bottom of wheel well.

My proposed correction is that you install slightly taller tires ie 245/40/19 front and 275/35/19 rears to literally fill the wheel wells. This would give appox .8 to 1" taller tire height compared to stock. It would eliminate appox 1/2 of the gap tire to wheel well, down side is it would raise the car about 1/2" off of the ground which would be good for speed bumps and curbs but not good for handling (still better than non sport suspension car though). I saw a car with this setup and it looked different in a good way. I think the question here is to find out what offset you can get away with at this tire diameter.

I'm in the same boat with you bobster. I'm not quite sure what to do regarding wheels for my '08 535i with Sport Package. I've been debating whether or not I should get the M5 wheels (166M) over the M6 wheels. What are your thoughts, pro/con's on the M5 vs M6 wheels?

I think they are each a very different look so you have to decide what you are going for. I just got a quote for each wheel, 166 are $1,500 and 167's are $2,200. 167's are low to mid 20lb range and 166 are 28lb. Your 124's are supposedly 32lb and the RFT tires are appox 32lb vs 25-27lb for non RFT. I'm not sure I want my car lower from a practical standpoint because I drive in town alot. At this moment I am considering 166's with 28 rear offset running Falken FK452 tires in the oversized sizes listed above. My tire guy said he would mount both sizes so we could check clearance and see how they look. With that being said I am still not committed to pulling that trigger today, not because of the money but because I want to be satisfied with my decision long term without regret. If I lower the car i would probably run a different wheel/tire combo and I have not ruled out lowering springs entirely.

Regards,

Bob

That is a picture of a non-sport package car wtih lower than sport package ride height, so I imagine some suspension work has been done. I wouldn't gamble that a stock sport package vehicle would have the same results with stock suspension. I'd try it without spacers first.
Yes it is not the sport package offer by BMW ..... it is the KW V3 .... I do agree that you start with the M6 rim without the spacer

I show the picture of the car when cornering to show that even the car 20mm spacer on .... at the full compress (when cornering) didn't rub.
