I don' t mind the look without spacers . I see the difference though , my wheel shop just about had a friggin heart attack when I asked about putting spacers on a new 550 what are the down sides other than the potential to sheer the bolts off ?

The orginal M6 rim were produce in only one offset number which i can't remember .... it may be ET17 as you mentioned.

Again if you really want to have a "PERFECT" look you need spacer ......

The picture show here is with the 20mm spacer ....
yeah, the M6 167's have ET17 (rear)

now, are you refering to 20mm spacers on the 167 from the M5 or the M6 (different offsets) ?
just a question: Using 20mm spacers on the M6 167's offset with 275 tires is going to cause rubbing, no?

Potential to shear the bolts off?!! I've never heard that.

I'm only repeating what my guy said , apparently high torque cars are capable of it with spacers

I just got a reply back from BMWWHEELS.COM and they are offering 28 rear offset on the 167's. Starting at perfect I would like to run without spacers and not lower my car. I've seen a 545i with slightly taller tires around town. He is running 245/40/19 front and 275/35/19 rear. They seem to fit well in that they fill the entire wheel well and look more substancial under the car sort of the way M5's look next to the new 550i sports. I am wondering if this taller tire will work on the M6 version 167's and does anyone on this board know anyone else with this size tire?

The downside ??? .... when you have widen you track .... your suspension have to work harder lead to higher wear and tear !!!

PICTURE SHOWN WITHOUT SPACER

Hi andy545 .... I did use 20mm spacer at the rear with the M6 rims on my E60 with no rubbing

The picture show the car high speed cornering ..... without rub!

I damaged one of my 124's and found a refurbished replacement at Detroit Tire and Wheel for under $200. It was $230 shipped. You can probably contact them and ask about a set of refurbished 167's and get a great price. The wheel I received is perfect, so they seems to do an excellent job on them. My brother used them to get a set of very expensive aftermarket wheels he wanted for his Porshe twin turbo at a fraction of the cost of new. He told them what he wanted and they took a few weeks to gather up a set and refurbish them. Might be a good option. Take some pics when you are done.

That is a picture of a non-sport package car wtih lower than sport package ride height, so I imagine some suspension work has been done. I wouldn't gamble that a stock sport package vehicle would have the same results with stock suspension. I'd try it without spacers first.

His car is an m5.
Thats the reason why he put 20mm spacers and has no rubbing issues. Now try doing that on a non m e60 with the stock tire sizes for m5 you will rub no matter of the offset(either 28 or 17).
If you use 167s with ET17 you cant go bigger than 275/30 and thats it.Regarding ride height the sport suspension is the lowest you can go.
Now, with ET28 you can go 275/30 and even lower than the sport suspension. You can ideally use an 8mm spacer if i remember correctly and have the same setup as nicke60gr.
I hope this helps a bit.If anyone thinks i m wrong somewhere please correct me
