well you already DIY bought it, you might as well finish the job. Don't worry about the extra cables- just BE GENTLE. the positive has an explosive charge on it for when you crash the car. disconnect negative first, then positive, remove the battery, connect positive, then negative.

fwiw- batteries plus is the only way to go- your new battery from the dealer effectively has no warranty, because to honor it they have to plug the car in and make sure it was started at least once in the previous two weeks, for which they will charge you an hour of labor. That alone is enough to cover the price of the battery at batteries plus, and they have a no-questions asked warranty.

How the HELL do you disconnect the positive terminal? I removed the first screw on the top, but the rest of the mess isnt budging.
Am I missing another release somewhere? How do I lift the black bundle and red casing off the battery?!!

I've heard that once you disconnect the battery in this car, and hook up a new one, there is some reprogramming involved, in which case, I assume a trip to the stealer is in order, any truth to this?

Did you get the battery installed? My car was totally dead this morning so looks like I'll be going to batteries plus. bJust want to make sure it can be done first.

well the battery change wasnt that difficult, except the covers over the terminals are not easy to unlatch in 24 degree weather at 10pm, especially if you are worried about an explosive charge that will send small peices of shrapnel into your face!!! and...whats with the facetious remarks on entertaining threads that we are NOT forced to read. A little couth please, your drive a Bimmer, try and act like you deserve to.

Hey - yeah its doable. Basically, when we got to the positive terminal, we undid the top screw which during the cold and night, thought that was it.
Then we were all pissy cuz we couldnt figure out why the damn thing wouldnt come off. I went back out there later realized there was a stupid easy latch covering the battery terminal, and we knocked it out.

Dont forget the vent tube. Apparently I forgot to attach the vent tube. I'm worried about it, and am going to go put it on now. I guess you just stick it in and point it down?
If anyone knows - let me know.

Just confirmed that my local batteries plus has the battery in stock. Going to go buy it after work and hopefully it will be an easy install. What do you think on install time? ... less than 30 minutes?

Yeah just about 30 mins. Like mentioned in earlier posts, just be gentle. I put socks over cables and stuff so nothing touched anything, etc.

there should be a small drain that the tube hooks up to. easiest, at least in past cars i've done it, is attach to car first then attach to battery once it's bolted in place.
