Stretched Tire issues?

well i think you'd have a lot more severe rim damage if the tire didnt absorb some of the impact. plus i'd venture to guess that a stretched tire is more prone to losing its bead seat and blowing out??

I would agree with you, if it's an extreme stretch. As I said, I run 275/30/20 in the rear with no issues whatsoever. It is only slightly stretched. Now, I could definitely see issues if someone was running 265 or 255/30/20 (I have even heard of 245/30/20 on a 10.5 rim, which I would never do, I don't like the look of it to be honest).
The OP mentioned 275/35/19, which should, depending on tire design, be slightly stretched like mine. I have had no issues other than the normal inner edge wearing faster than the outer edged of the tire - welcome to owning a BMW with negative camber by design.

Thanks for all the replies guys, it was very helpful. Though it sounds like for the most part the guys that say it's ok seem to be running 20's. I may just bite the bullet and buy wider rear tires....

I was running 245/45/18 on 10.5" rims. Wasn't bad at all
