Anything specific I should say? Like "check such and such part" in case they try to BS me and tell me it's a "normal" sound?

and btw, I saw you're in chicago. I'm assuming with the yr and mileage, you're still in warranty, so you'll be visiting the dealer.....but if you're looking for a great indy shop in the chicagoland area....Gearhead Auto, in Glen Ellyn, IL is a great shop. Very knowledgeable on all Euro imports. One of the owners trained as a tech for MB in Stuttgart, Germany, and knows his stuff.....

Good to know. Would you recommend the same place to get nods installed, or are there other shops around here that are good for that?
But who knows, maybe Gearhead would do those things....

Never used them for mods, so I wouldn't really know. I did take my E46 M to Anthony at A&L in Palatine for mods. They installed my ACS front lip spoiler. I'd recommend them for mods.

Gearhead Auto completed the job on my 5er today, and the Water Pump was definitely the culprit of the ticking noise. So thanks to all for your input. But she is back on the road, noise free!
Gearhead did a great job, and actually came in 10% below his quotation. So many times you hear of horror stories out there, so I wanted to share a positive one about this great indy shop in chi-town!

I had my water pump, thermostat and belts replaced on my 2005 545i two weeks ago - common problem indeed and at low miles.
