Strange Rattle

I'm in need of assistance!
I've had my 2006 530i for about 5 months now. It's seems that every so often when I start the engine or turn it off I hear a strange thumping rattle sound coming from the engine compartment. It sounds like something?s loose on the back of the engine. It only does during the initial ?shake? when the engine stops or starts. I took it to the dealer but like all "outside the box" troubles I could only reproduce the rattle once in front of the service rep. The service rep said "Boy, that?s odd" and called over a mechanic to see if he knew what would cause the "DA DA DA" thumping rattle and thou and behold the rattle went away. I couldn't reproduce the problem by just starting and stopping the engine.
Anyways, I was wondering if any of you out there have experienced a problem like this.
