Strange Noise

Hi was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to a noise i have on my 2004 e60 when it is on tick over it makes a ticking noise which is quite loud sometimes but from cold it does not do it only when it is warm and i have noticed that when i change from d to p sometimes the noise stops and if i lift the revs just abit the noise is not there engine sounds fine when driving and oil and water is fine ny ideas ?
