I just realize I have never used either the DS or Manu mode. In the E60's user manual, this in only ONE sentence for the DS mode, "DS mode is for performance-orientated driving style" (Aren't we all performance orientated, or why buy a BMW? )

Anyway, how often do you guys use it? When? Is there any pros or cons, if any?

I sometimes use it on the freeway to accelerate.floor the 1st to the 2nd.I luv the sound of the engine when the rpm i redlined!the only downside of the step is the time lagging from the gears change if u know what i mean. It takes a while(1-2 sec) for the gears to change. Hope you understand my confusing post

pros:faster acceleration, helpfull when stopping suddenly by downshifting
cons:gear changing lag

WEll, it won't go into 6th gear in DS mode. It holds onto the gears longer for a given throttle setting.

I rarely use the DS mode. I'm either in D or in manual "Sport" mode.

I don't like the DS because sometimes it will rev to 4000 rpm in 1st and 2nd just because it feels like it. And then every ricer in a Nissan Sentra thinks you are trying to race them.

Manual Sport works for me, I get to decide when the gears change and the Sport mode offers quicker shifts than normal.

....the only time i DONT use DS is when im driving to the station in the AM, so its 95% DS/M and 5% D
...and whenever im in DS, i always upshift/downshift as desired/required which moves it to M mode and i'll manually shift to 6th when called for

pros...faster pedal response, holds gears much longer, holds gears above 2k rpm

cons...no 6th gear, so less fuel efficiency

I mostly use normal mode in town driving and DS mode on a country blast or race off the lights.

Just for fun if you put it in manaul mode accelerate, then change up, take foot off for a second then back on you can get it to sound just like a manual. Sad but true!

I always use M6 on the motorway to stop it changing down when I accelerate hard. With the diesel torque you only need 6th gear.

I never use anything but DS or manual shifting. I want to control my tranny as much as possible for the best performance and, strangely enough, for me, the best gas mileage. This thread has some information that may be of interest to you. There are no cons unless you are simply into making things as easy as possible. Also, the comfort mode starts in a higher gear than DS.
