When you shift a true manual, the driver and most passengers subconsciously compensate for the so called "head bob." With the SMG, people do not key into the shifting cues right away and thus do not automatically compensate for the shift and accompanying delay in forward thrust.

Again.... the SMG is not what causes the rough shifts, it's the driver. I promise you, I can shift my SMG so smooth that a passenger will think it's an automatic.

530i msport, I'll take a stab at this and say that I'd highly recommend that you get the Steptronic. To me it sounds like you're expecting the SMG to be like an automatic and you're only considering it because of the cost.

If that's true, get the Steptronic. You can thank me later.

(and, by the way, in case you're thinking I'm biased and "anti-SMG," do a search! )

YOU SMG Troll! How can you recommend against SMG? HAHAHAH

Yes SMG does have a D "Automatic" Mode but it dosent shift very well... it lurches its good as its there when you need to to shift for you as you're drinking coffee, putting on make up, or shaving other than that most people with SMG shift manually and are VERY VERY happy with it.

IMHO a car as big and luxurious as the E60 needs to have the step tranny. You cant compare its smoothness with the jerky SMG. M5 is another matter, you dont buy it to drive smoothly.

Guarantee you I can drive a SMG smother than an automatic can shift. There is a learning curve on the SMG you need to know how to drive it. You have not been behind the wheel of a SMG long enough if you made that kind of statement.
