When my steering wheel goes up it makes a squeeky sound ONLY when It goes up but if it goes left right down there is no noise, what would the cause of the noise be ? My car is a bmw e60 530i 2005 with sport steering wheel

Mine does that sometimes on super hot days [100+F]. On this Forum there was a fix that suggested opening access door on the bottom of the steering column and treating with Teflon or silicone spray. Do not use WD-40 because of the stink factor. Look for the DIY, I have not treated mine because high summer is waning and the noise is gone.

OK every car is different best would be to locate the general area that the noise is coming from and spray lightly there. I have seen on some cars you actually can see the worn out area on the plastic it looks kind of discolored and white. If you cant then you need to take apart the steering column outside plastic housing which is simple.
