I had a squeeky steering wheel, but mainly at low speeds when turning a fair bit. The dealer put some sort of additive in the power steering reservoir/unit and its gone. Although, based on how you've described it probably a different squeek.
They said mine wasn't covered by warranty but did it as goodwill.

How long ago did you get this done? I got it done on mine about 6 months ago, it cleared up completely, but the noise is now starting to return

what did you do to clear up the noise for 6 months.... ??? did you add anything to the power steering fluid?
As I said, the noise is coming back now, my service advisor is going to see if BMW will offer any goodwill towards a new steering column.
