Steering wheel auto-adjust problem

Hi all,
I am having a problem with the Steering wheel auto-adjust in my 04 525i.
It actually never worked before and I was ok with that. Last week I took my car to get it detailed, and It was looking good when I picked it up but for some reason the auto-adjust feature magically started working. So I'm like whatever, it's a good thing but a day later it started making a grinding noise when adjusting... WTF
It's so annoying and it feels like it's about to break.
Is there any way I could disable that feature? Anyone having the same problem??
