It's definatly the steering column. I had same problem on my 2004 E61. a little clunk when doing slow manouvers. took a long time to get it sorted. The dealers tried to replace just certain parts of the steering column, which made no difference. finally I took a drive with a cheif mechanic so he could experience it first hand, because I swear they thought I was making it up
Apparently the mechanic had been telling his bosses to let them change the whole steering column, but by doing just bits and pieces sometimes cured some vehicles They once told me that they had a different grease now, and that would solve the problem
Get straight to your dealer, it is a warranty issue, and BMW know about it. Also squeaky door seals is another one they are aware of

My Ride: 2004 545i TITANIUM GREY II on Black Dakota Lthr, Comfort Seats, Sports PKG, Premium PKG, Active/Dynamic Drive, NAV, Winter Package.
I can confirm is it the Steering Shaft that needs to be replaced. When I picked up my 2004 545i three weeks ago I noticed this program and took it back to the dealer since it is still under warranty. The replaced the Steering Shaft and the problem/noise went away. It works like a charm now.

Hi All,
Great forum - I've been an observer for a couple of months but have never posted.
I have recently purchased my E60 and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a slight bump or knock that can be felt through the steering wheel when turning around round-a-bouts or sharp turns when nearing full lock.
Anyone any ideas what this may be?
Your help is appreciated!
