:'(
Booked in for some outstanding warranty work needed a track rod end and 4 wheel realignment noticed after this that whilst driving on motorway to keep wheels central arms are in the "10 mins to" position. Booked in again as needed a cip software update and the dealer said this could be the 4 wheel realignment not being correct when they replaced the track rod end.

After a 3rd visit they have checked the wheel alignment and said this was fine and charged me for this !! got the car back and the steering is still off center I asked the dealer what exactly have I paid them ?200 for and they stated to check they had aligned the wheels correctly - and if i want to find out why its not central they will charge me to investigate this (i thought this was what i was paying for - not to check their work)

Stormed out planning on complaining to customer services but feel I have been ripped off and I am no further forward any help anyone can offer would be appreciated I want my ?200 back and my problem sorted out.

ps i dont have active steering

When replacing the track rod they need to recenter the steering wheel. It's just an adjustment and if they didn't figure this out I would seek another dealer. It's a minor adjustment but they will need to get under your car.

When performing a CIP update ,as you had done, there is a procedure at the end where the tech must center the steering wheel for Active Steering reset. If they don't do this properly, the steering wheel will be off center as you described. If you have Active Steering, then tell them they need to perform this procedure. This happened to me.

Mine steering wheel is about 2-3 degrees off center after they replaced the sensor. Its barely noticable, but drives me nuts. I am just too lazy/busy to go to the delaer right now.

I know what u guys mean....I have this on both my cars and its drives me bananas. I have also seen on a friends 650i just thought it was normal to BMW's and happens all the time.

Anyone who got it fixed have it go back to the off center position again? If so how long did it last and does anyoe know what causes it?

Only my E53 came with the wheel slightly off center. Dealer was able to fix it and for the 40k miles I owned the X5 it was fine. I've never had the problem that I remember on any other Bimmer. My Land Rover is like that but that was caused by me lifting the suspension a little. I've been to busy to fix it but a few minutes with a wrench and another set of eyes and it would be resolved.
