Clarification:
The new clicking sound is not coming from the steering wheel.? I never had the clicking from that area, even before the steering column change.?? The new noise is coming from the area near the tires/wheels.

Hey Teriyaki88,

The last time I heard that noise I was the recipient of a new steering rack (my second one). If you are getting a clicking or grinding noise instead of the usual electronic "whine" that we usually hear from the front-end I think you're next in line for a steering rack. Make sure you get a good loaner as mine was out for 8 days the 1st time (@ 1,200 miles) and 14 days (@ 17K miles). As of last month there were 10 racks sent to California. Mine came in to MA damaged so they sent for another one. This time only from CA (where the 10 racks landed) and not Germany. I've heard that the 645's have had similar problems with the steering racks.

I forgot to mention that my car had thrown a few AS errors as well.

not to sound negative or anything, i still want my '06 530i but now i'm leaning towards a lease instead of buying... i am aware of 80% of the e60 problems that gave been discussed on this board and now a steering column issue that more than 1 person is experiencing is starting to scare me away from owning....

Let me put it this way: When I was negotiating my lease I asked my dealer when the warranty was up. I told him I want "that many miles over 3 years. Thank you."
I wouldn't want to be owning anything this complex after it's out of warranty.
My father has owned several 750's over the years (the 12cyl ones) and I'll tell you that car is nowhere as complex as these and when anything broke after warranty it was at least $1500. I can just imagine what these will be.

Yup!!

Just lucky I guess.

Actually the first one was a bad casting. I little quirk that occured in some select March build cars (545 & 645). The second time came from a PUMA case (basically the local dealer can't figure it out and confers with their German counterparts). End result, another rack. As long as it's not out of my pocket I really don't care too much.
