steering column

Hi Guys,

When i start the engine , usually the steering column tilts to the down as i set it like that , but the is a cranking noise in it .

Anyone experience this , what could cause this , do you this it is a lack of grease?

Mine was doing the same this a while ago. I recall there was something in the steering that was not torqued at the right setting.

Have your dealer take a look at it.

Weird, as I ran into the same situation once - after I had the detailers wash the car at work. Funny thing is that later that night the noise disappeared. Not exactly sure what happened; and I haven't experienced it again.

I experienced the same problem with my 04 525. What you need to do is take it to the dealer. It can be a couple of things: the bearings are bad or need to be greased, or the stearing colum needs to be replaced. Center BMW in Sherman Oaks, CA was great about it and replaced the entire steering column in one day. Now the sound is gone. It shoud be covered under warranty.
