State inspection and emission inspection?

My Idrive displays service due, state inspection and emission inspecion. I'm searching online to see exactly what those are and is it necessary to bring it in. Can't find much info on it. I assume emission inspection is similar to smog test. Can anyone shed some light on this topic for me? Can I just reset it through Idrive like the oil reset?

Emissions is a smog test... Every state is different. You can go into the idrive and change those dates... they are set for a certain period of time and then come up as service reminders. If your state doesnt have one, the other or both simply reset the indicator.

jaycal is correct. It is a user set reminder in the iDrive though the dealer might set it when the car is delivered. Set it as needed for a reminder or simply adjust the date far into the future to avoid the warning message...
