I have a 2006 and I am glad I mine was built before the start button was added.? It is really stupid.? I definitely would not pay an additional $1000 so I can keep the fob in my pocket.? If if has a start button - it must come with that option free.? What a rip off.

Why would BMW have a start button that requires a fob ibe placed into a slot and then push a button? That's an extra step from just a key.? How dumb.? After all that ... one would then need to push the Idrive button to say "yes I accept" to the lawyer screen??!!!? ? What ever happened to turn and go??

Yeh, in the winter i may have to take off my winter glove to push the start botton

I just took European Delivery of my US E60 530i with Sept 8 built date. It's definitely on the cars built in September for US.

I'm still trying to get used to it. You push the fob in and wait for it to initiate, then press the brakes, then press the start/stop button to start the enginge. Will take getting used to for me.

When you want to turn off the engine you press the start/stop button, then press the fob key to release it. Again, will take getting used to for me.

The start button looks as follows:

By the way, here's another two quick pics.

Man, the side of the steering column looks pretty poor with all those plastic seams, etc. My current E39 is much cleaner.

Better idea would have been to leave the regular keyway/ignition unless you order comfort access.

Eh just picked up a car with the Start / Stop Button today... its a gimmick... its ok for a while but it'll get borring soon. Theres too much pushing... Push in the key, then push start. And to turn it off... you gotta push the off button and THEN push the key then pull to take it out.

With the regular key I can do it all in one swoop. Insert and then just turn and crank. And then to turn it off just twist off and pull all in one swoop. Ya I was right I prefer the old Start Assist with a triditional Key.

BUT on the other hand if you have comfort access then by all means I prefer that! I would have liked comfort access...

Definitely a gimmick, but not a big deal.......whether you have comfort access or not.

The S2k has had a start button for years, turn the key and press the button.

My buddy had one for 3 years, became 2nd nature after a week.

No. You can drive as soon as the engine is on and you're in gear.
However, you need to "Accept" the warning displayed on i-Drive before you can use i-Drive functions. The warning really isn't the big deal that people who don't have think it is (gosh, that was bad eengleesh).

I see, thanks!

Whatcha mean by "picked up"? You get a new one? Or were you referring to the new 3? Is one of those keys an E60 new key? If so, which one?

Cool Pics. Thanks
