After some talk about a group buy for the M steering wheel, i was just wondering what everyone thinks of the standard one. The main issue seemed to be how nice and sporty the extra thickness is. Just wanted to get some feedback. Thanks.

cheers,
jack

I have to agree, the steering wheel in my 530 is way too thin...I am a big guy, and on a long drive, my hands actually begin to hurt.

I was checking prices on new BMW steering wheels and I have a question...

How the hell is it that a replacement steering wheel can cost more than a new laptop computer?

So living here in the US we don't get the opportunity to get the sport wheel that I see our "outside of US" E60 family members can get.

With SMG, at least I can get a nice looking steering wheel. I too wish that the 2006 model would bring the sport steering wheel to the US.

Currently I'm driving a 530d loaner with sports steering wheel, but NOT heated. It's also waaaaay too thin, just like the regular steering wheel. Also very hard.
The heated sports steering wheel is just perfect. Perfect grip, not thin, not too hard.

Someone asked mw how thick the new wheel was on the 2006 530i. Best way to describe. On 2005 I could wrap my fingers around the wheel and touch my fingers against my palm.

On new wheel my fingers can't touch my palm.

The wheel feels like foam is under leather covering. It did not feel like the 2005 which leather felt tight against wheel.

Finally got use to the soft feel on leather on wheel.

I did not like the Standard E60 steering wheel from the start.
So that why I have change to a Silver carbon fiber sport SMG steering wheel which is much better but still a little bit on the hard side.
