You can totally do it. I've been doing it for some time now and it's great. Hell, I even have spacers on my car too (10mm rear and 5mm Front). That's a myth about it screwing up the AWD system.
Here's why it's BS... The X5 4.8i with 21" wheels is a staggered set-up, direct from BMW. If it was an issue with the x-drive system, do you think BMW would be doing it on their trucks, let alone their sedans?
You're fine. I've done it, DrLev99 has done it, KU530 has done, 06xi has done it and so has Bambi. And, if you look at realoem.com, they make a set of 124's just for the xi model that is a staggered set-up. The fronts are ET43 and the rears are ET55, for a staggered set-up.

If I wanted to go from my curent 17" stock wheels on my 535Xi, same size front and back, to the 18" size, could I buy four style 124 front wheels with the ET43 offset and use those on all four corners?
I'm asking for the case of using the same size front and back, not staggered. Someone suggested considering this so you can rotate the tires.
Thanks
Bruce

Disregard that it says 530 and not 535. Same thing.
