I bought my E60 550i used with 20,000 miles... when it was delivered to me, the smell of burned clutch was very strong. So i bought to the dealer and they replaced it under warranty. I have put about 3K miles on the car since... no problem except for that annoying squeak from the clutch pedal.
How close to the top of the pedal travel does your clutch release? Mine is probably 1.5 inches from teh top of teh travel. Normally clutches start to release further down (say 1/3 of the way or more?) but not this car. It's also a self adjusting clutch and I think they just might have a problem...

Let's wish each other luck!

My clutch started doing the same about 4/5 months ago, I got down their and sprayed the sh*t out of it with a graphite lube, then worked the pedal up and down loads. Hasn't done it since.
It's worth a shot.

On my car, clutch started to engage pretty soon from the floor and will not finish until pretty close to the top.

I bought it with 30k miles 1.5 months ago and the clutch is original.
