Open your passenger door before you start the engine. If the noise has disappeared, polish the sealing strip around the door with Auto Glyn Bumper Care, and you'll have no more bother.

If you hear it when the car is not moving, you have to ask yourself what is moving to create the squeak.

Belt, compressor clutch, somthing in the tranny, if auto?

Do you have a CD changer in the glove box? You say it is from the passenger side in the dashboard.
Yes, I have a changer, but there are no CDs in it (I have an iPod connected to the AUX).

I'll try the door trick and report back.

I have a 2005 530i and too have the same chirping sound at start up. It usually went away within 10 second. Did you say you were to bring the vehicle in to the dealer? What have they found, Can you share?

Sounds like the same exact problem I had..Most likely your E-box fan. The fix ran me about $500. Keep us posted..

Where is the e-box fan? Is it on the passenger side?

Yes. The E-box fan is located on the passenger side - on the other side of the glove compartment
