Only problem is, that you simply "CAN'T" ban IP's, since some IP's are proxys, etc... If you know how, you can switch your IP every couple seconds...?
. Yeah, guests (imho) should be banned. But hey, you can definately track who the guests are....For example:

But we get IP allocated by our provider. Each time I log in, I get a different (theoretically) IP. I may end up picking up a banned IP one of these sessions. Then we will "why am i being banned" question.

With all the good information available -- as well as the poor state of affairs over at RF -- I'm certain that such a minor inconvenience won't stop anyone from joining.

I don't think the guest posting is the problem (yet).
I'm amazed at what type of reaction one simple troll-like post is causing. This type of reaction is what contributed to the state of affairs over at RF.
Please everyone, don't sweat it. Rest assured that Lomag will take care of any troll problems if and when it becomes necessary. We can all help out by ignoring stupid posts -- from guests or from registered members...
