I spotted a 2009 (yes, a pre-production test vehicle!) 535d. It was kitted out with a sport suspension, m-tec kit, etc. The front end and the back end were a bit different...otherwise, overall size of the vehicle and "stature" on the road was unchanged.

What else...oh yeah, I've also spotted an 09 Audi last summer....

These cars have Michigan Manufacturer's plates, and BOSCH stickers in the mirrors.

There's a huge diesel/alternative fuel lab in sacramento due to the extreme condition variants (hot in summer, cold in mountains close by in the winter) and the proximity to major markets, highways, railroads, and airports.

I was told all this information by a VW/Audi tech rep after I saw the A6 last year.

Oh yeah, the car was debadged and all black--stealth!

How could you tell it was a 535d?

Nice. Have never seen a BMW diesel in the States. Looks like we'll be getting our share soon.

Don't be so sure.

The test lab in Sacramento just TESTS vehicles that are POTENTIALLY scheduled for release in the United States.

I'm just assuming that it was the 535d. There were test stickers all over it, and they usually only test the higher end vehicles.

BMW put out a press release back in Nov 2006 saying they would introduce diesel to the US market in 2008. Didn't indicate specific models as I recall...

Where in Sacramento did you spot these cars? I gotta keep an eye out for one of those de-badged diesel-sounding E60s!
