For 2004 you do want to get comfort seats. Sport seats are pretty bad.
I have to disagree too. I have the sports seats and they're perfectly fine. Now of course they're not as good as the Comfort seats but they're not bad at all.

The 335 was good just not enough of an upgrade over the car I had. I am being patient in my search. My dealer is going to the auction on Thursday and will have the list of cars on Wednesday, so I will know my chances in a few days. I have looked at many 545's over the last few days and only 1 had the comfort seats, so it isn't a deal breaker for me.

I would try the both types of seats for a lengthy period of time if you can before you make your decision. Sorry to say this and I don't mean to offend the posters that think sport seats are great but I don't think SO. In all my BMW,s I've had sport seats and they are great if you take short trips but if you take long trips IMO they are very uncomfortable even if you change positions of the seat from time to time, and no I don't have back problems. After driving BMW's that have confort seats I know that is the way I'll go the next time. Thats the only mistake I made in my present 530i not having them.. Try doing a search on this site as well as on www.bimmerfest.com and you will see what I'm talking about. Good luck in what ever one you choose.
cheers

I'm making the exact opposite move. Mine is for sale. See below.

Originally in 2004 I wanted an M3, but I had very small children then and I needed the 4 door. I didn't fit comfortably in the E46 anyway. Now the kids are a little bigger and can buckle themselves in, so I am back to wanting the two door. I also thought I would be taking vacations in the 5 instead of the minivan, but that proved to be troublesome. When they announced the turbo motor in the 3 and the coupe, I was sold. I find the 4.4 liter and the 3.0 liter turbo to be very similar in throttle response and character. I think the thing I will miss the most is the heated steering wheel.
