Does the sport package also lower the car a little?

Qdavis , I certainly don't want to come across as a DETRACTOR of AS.

A question was asked for and I responded, honestly from my experience of course others
are intitled to there views on the subject.

I believe if I would have been shopping for a 525/530 I would have opted for AS, it truely does
make the car much more agile in a model that to me is slightly under powered.

But on the 545 I found the increased power and the linear standard steering a nice match.
Knowing me I will be shopping for a new car in a couple of years, and I will again try AS, maybe BMW will modify it , AS II, with less range in ratio.

I believe it is great technology , and like SMG will become feature of many other brands in the future.

Just the combination of 18" run flats, Clevelands poor roads, and the feel of AS made me not chosse the SP.

Coming from a SP 330Ci , I do enjoy the smoother ride I guess.

DR.Z
DR. Z,
Now that you mention Cleveland roads in winter, you might have a really good point there. The 18" wheels on the SP might be hazardous with those conditions. In the end, you gotta decide what you will enjoy most anyway. (actually it's GDavis, but I know you can't tell from the font that shows up!)

Here's how I look at it. I wouldn't miss what I don't know...but knowing what I do now, I could never do without it! Go for the sport package and AS!

I have always ordered the Sport Package on my BMWs. It makes the 545i 6 speed a super car and a blast to drive on winding roads, freeways etc.........BUT it does make for a much harsher ride on some of Houston's older crappy streets.

For me this is only about 10% of the time and lead me to be BIT more cautious on these type of streets to avoid bumps and holes.

I also invested in the wheel and tire insurance ($250 for 3 years) so if I do fall into a hole it will be somebody elses problem.

Reason I'm glad I don't have sport package
- Clearance: had trouble getting previous BMW in previous garage and it would bottom out on some speed bumps and highway dips.
- Shadowline: I don't really like the look.
- Summer tires: I don't want to have to change the tires twice per year and don't really need snow tires (snow on ground only a few days per year).

Things I wish I had known before I bought the car I have
- Seats: if you don't get S.P., get the comfort seats.

It's a 530 (note: DXXX = 530 in Roman Numerals).

I have same seats as you. Could have better bolsters but I don't slide around so much anyway. My wife is quite a bit smaller though and she sure does.

They're Ok around town but I just don't find the seat completely comfortable on longer trips and can't seem to locate a perfect position. Think I could with comfort seats but I guess that's an assumption.

Active steering is too techno-pop. I wouldn't spend $1,250.00 on it, but I'll sell you mine.

Ah! DXXXi, neat login name. It's been too many years since I've looked Roman Numerals (except each January for the Super Bowl!) and I did not make the association.
