I still have time to adjust my options and my latest confusion is on the sports chassi which just got available for the 530D E61 touring.
I understand that all US customers seems very fond of the sports package but here you have to put it together as separate options. I have active steering on order but not DD (too expensive for me) - the sports chassi is not that tough (450 USD)-

My priority list is (after deciding on the E61):
1. Safety
2. Durability/Quality
3. Comfort
4. Looks
5. Sporty handling (whatever that is but I guess many others have this on top - maybe I shouldn?t have a BMW but I take it rather easy on the road)

So I didn?t much consider the sport chassi. But since I now want the 18" 124 rims for the looks over the 17" 138 (hoping comfort will not suffer much) my dealer now tells me that the look of the car is much better with 18" wheels if it?s lowered (sorry but this is a whole new arena for me the looks of rims) going on to say that the sport chassi is then also a style thing.

Questions:
1. Referring to my priority list above what will I loose with sports chassi?
2. Referring to my priority list above what will I gain with sports chassi?
3. Can the 15 millimeter that the sport chassi lower the touring really make an esthetic impact?

best

The 15 mm and 18" just do wonders with the looks of the E60.

You loose a little comfort but gain better road feel IMO.

25.4 mm = 1 inch, so 15mm will show noticably less space between the tire and wheel well. I have active steering, active suspension and the staggered 18". The handling of the car is unbelievable. I have had the car for a month and a half and I still go into turns, cloverleafs etc. to slow. It un-natural how fast you can maintain in a turn.
