I drove a manual Diesel car for nearly 100k miles, and I was blipping the throttle (heel-and-toe) when dowshifting.
Thanks dlevi67!
That's good to know...

I have tried blipping the throttle on various cars in the past but am so bad at it that I avoid it altogether.

Of course blipping throttle was for rev matching so you would not grind gears in our old non-sync manuals. Much of that has gone away even for our manual trannys. Some even required a double blip (well at least some of mine did). But for race manuals with straight cut gears and no syncros (weight don't you know) blipping is still done. But for us non racers it is pretty much for show (and listening - gotta love that sound on almost any engine/exhaust BMW produces)

It's just a question of trying and trying again. A lot easier when you are 18 and learning to drive...

If you really want to learn, buy yourself an old FIAT 500 (vintage 1974 or earlier) without synchromesh on ANY gear, and an asthmatic 2-cylinder air-cooled engine which produces 18 bhp at 3800 rpm, and you'll soon be practice perfect!

if the new transmission keeps the clutch engaged for longer, as it seems to be implied in the descriptions, then it will be felt!)
...and used in the Regenerative Braking system...

Can any good souls locate some good sound/movie files of what blipping the throttle on a downshift sounds like when done well.
(I've found a few but they were all rally/racing so it was a bit OTT)

Thanks!

fwiw, there was an article about the new auto tranny + paddles from the 335 in the latest issue of roundel. basically, its pretty close to smg amd audi dsg, but its still an automatic. smg's manual mode is still better than this auto paddle, but smg's auto mode is worse than this auto paddle. the auto paddle is better than any other previous auto from bmw, but it is still a bit jerky at low speeds and low gears. it shifts faster than previous autos, but probably not as fast as smg. in full auto mode, the new auto paddle does seem to stay in the correct gears during hard driving more often compared to previous autos.

Thanks for those... sounds great... especially the Clarkson clip...
any chance you could also find a clip of blipping with the paddles on a 335i or 335d?
Or is that asking too much :-)

its pretty close to smg amd audi dsg, but its still an automatic
with a complementary clutch. The torque converter is "mainly" used for moving off.
