...........E60 M-Sport" ..........
That version isn't sold in the US is it? Also, is the OP in the US or overseas?

......"E60 SE".....
Do you mean "Sport Edition" like a sport package equipped car?

Is the SE another car that is not sold in the US?

Thanks,
Henry

I bought a CPO 2004 545i Sport Package and found out later that it didn't have the Sport Package installed. The dealer simply put on the Sport Package wheels and tires and sold it to me as a "sport". Has anybody heard of anything like this before and what, short of hiring a lawyer, should be done about it. It seems to me this CPO car was improperly certified.
In 2004, the Sport package was 124 style wheels, black shadowline trim and more importantly; active roll suspension and active steering. There may have been a few other things like interior and seats, but the important thing to me is whether it has the suspension and steering.

It should be easy to verify whether it has active roll and active steering. That will tell you whether there was cosmetic changes or whether it has the factory sport package.

The M-Sport is completely different - body trim and wheels and was not even an option in 2004.

OK, we need the OP to put in what location he's at, otherwise this thread is worthless

Anybody on this board would notice that the car had no M-Sport body kit, had chrome window trim, no sport seats, no sport steering wheel ... I think what really happened is that the buyer didn't really understand what he was buying and just misunderstood. Sorry to be harsh, no offence is intended, but I'm not convinced the dealer is at fault here.
I think you are the one that doesn't know what your talking about, not the original forum member who posted the question.

Its a 2004 it wouldn't have the M-tech body kit.

Since he has only be a forum member since the end of July and had only two posts. Maybe he is not as informed as many members on this site. Ease up a little buddy. The average buyer, if it states "sport package", he/she is going to believe it has a sports package.

Kennecarls:
If you are in the USA, bought a 2004 and it has chrome around the windows it does not have the sports package. I think on the 2004's a sport package has the active steering, active roll stabilization, sport seats and rides lower by a half inch on a "Sport Calibration suspension. Oh yes, Shadow Trim. I am disregarding any tire/wheels combinations, to easy to change. As far as a 2004 sold in Europe, I will defer to our friends across the pond.

The sport seats with the extendable thigh supports should tell the tale whether or not this a dealer modified vehicle or the real thing. The VIN number will also have all the info that you would need IDed through BMWNA.

The car does not have sport seats and I bought it in the USA at Long Beach BMW, CA.

I've seen this practice done a lot on ebay, all these car lots that go on line advertise E60s with sport package when it does not have it, they do that with NAV as well. The untrained eye could easily believe that a car has the sports package.
I think the easiest way to tell are the seats. Never judge by the trim or wheels.

KENNECARLS please update your location in your profile
Location is up to date now. Ebay I can understand, but not from a BMW dealer.

The sport model should also have different front and rear bumpers and side skirts. I believe it also has different seats and steering wheel. When you say it was sold "as a sport", what do you mean? What does the log book say? What does the invoice from the dealer say?Have you insured the car as an SE or Sport? Was it brand new or second hand?

If you can publish a photo of your car and a photo of your invoice (with personal details removed), we'll be able to give you a lot more advice.

I don't think there is a difference in the bumpers or side skirts, at least not on the 2004. Explain what you mean by the "log book". I'm not familiar with that. My insurance company doesn't care about sport or not sport equipped. The invoice just says 545i. I don't think there's a difference in the steering wheel, but it does not have sport seats. The car is a BMW CPO car.
