Sport package is not rare at all. Some telling signs from outside are:

1. Shadow line trim
2. Sport wheels - 123s on 525i and 530i and 124s on the 545i, 535i, and 550i
3. Xenons - although some non sports can come with this. All sports have this option.
4. Seats - the front seats are bucket style with a moveable thigh section.

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now. IMO go sport package if nothing else, the ride is much better.
The 525i comes with 122's on the sport package, 123's are only for the 530i sport.
Also, Xenons are not standard on the sport package. My 2007 525 has sport and premium, but no Xenons

The killer component of the US Sport Pack is of course Active Roll Stabilization. That's worth the price of entry alone. I also rue the day BMWNA took active steering out of the US Sport Pack - AS coupled with ARS is an unbeatable combination in its class.
totally agree !!

it would probably take me like a week to see 100 e60's but none with the sport package
From what I see here in northern NJ at least 90% of 8-cyl cars have Sport Pack. E60 w/out SP does not make much sense to me. Why not get an MB or a Lexus if you are not interested in handling, any of them (MB/Lexus) deliver more prestige/luxury/comfort .

My first 2007 525i I ordered without the Sports pkg because of all the bad roads here in Jersey and NYC.
From having previous cars with aggressive suspension, larger wheels and low profile tires, I've learned that despite the fun I had driving, it killed my pocket due to frequent damages to the tires and wheels.

This time around however, I did place an order with a sports pkg so I'm not sure if this was a wise choice or not..
