what about the "SHAMWOW " ..........................

off topic, I always thought that all americans called it "soda" and only Canadians called it "pop". Here in Canada everyone calls it pop.
OP, as for the smell I think your best bet will be to actually lift up the carpet to clean underneath.

I'm from Michigan and "yes" we also call it "Pop".
The funniest thing is the "large ass pop" comment. There is a definite difference in a large pop and a large ass pop.
I sympathize with you. I had just got a new sport-ute a long time ago when my two-year old spilled a pound bag of gumballs under my seat. They got into the floor ventilation vents that run under the seat and under the carpet. For the next year almost I could hear them rolling around under the seat, in the venting whenever I stopped or started. Don't forget this was a brand new car.
I feel your pain.

So last night I rented a carpet steamer/wet vac and went at it like a champion. Woke up early this morning as well to do a second pass. Final result is a spot free carpet with no more sticky residue. I think I managed to get most of it out.
Only one problem now, there is still a faint smell if you bring your nose down to the carpet. I think I may be going a bit crazy trying to get it feeling and smelling like new. Is there any last recomendations for odor removal? I used the odor removal substance that came with the cleaner and it worked somewhat but not fully.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help. Greatly appriciated.
