As for rainy nights and no spare, what do you do, how do you get home if its damaged beyond repair oh my! Well how do you get home if you blow your radiator, your starter, your alternator, your engine, your clutch? Its not like those come with a spare.
I've looked at the technology and trust it, I just wish the ride was more comfortable.

You have a 2008 and its a Wagon, who knows what that comes with. what we're talking about is Pre-LCI.

My '07 530xi has the sport 18" wheels w/RFT AND a spare. Didn't need it earlier in the month when a pothole split the sidewall of a front tire. Was able to drive 20 miles to my dealer to have tire and wheel replaced. Had this been a conventional tire I would have certainly been sitting on the roadside waiting for a flatbed or had to replace with a donut spare etc etc.
So, a simple puncture is something I really don't have much fear of. What really scares me, though, is the replacement cost for these tires. So, even though the first horse was already out of the barn, I immediately purchased a wheel and tire protection plan.

Ha ha, I think we have just found another example of the US povety pack. Here, we pay 130K for the 530 and we get run float tires, a spare and a jack.
I think I would rather be in your shoes. My advice, use some of the price difference and buy a spare tire and a jack.

I have to say it is something that BMW does not make clear. I spent an two or three hours talking to dealers and having demos etc. and run flat tyres and the lack of a spare was never mentioned. It's a good job I'm really anal and spent hundreds of hours going through the options book and found I had to pay extra for a spare. I asked the dealer why and then the whole run flat thing was explained. I have opted to do without a spare on the basis that on the two occasions that I have had a puncture in the last few years (not in a BMW, but a Saab), one was on a busy road in the dark and the second was on a motorway and on both occasions I called a breakdown service because I wasn't risking my neck changing a tyre in those conditions. With runflats, on both occasions I would have been able to continue without stopping, but if I ever did damage a runflat so badly that I needed a tow truck, it would be no different from my previous recent experience.

Let me stress the positive side (if there is one).
Eliminating 60 pounds of weight in the back of your car should give you better fuel mileage (and no, I am not "RedWhiteBlue" or "Sleepycat" in disguise).
I have the spare with NRFs, but I also have Onstar and a mobile phone. I am thinking about getting rid of the spare for the one day of possible time consumption when I may need it. I would send you my spare, but my car is leased.
I hope I made someone feel better that there is "some" upside.
