Thumbs down

Hey

I have a 04 525i US Spec and I got a print out from BMW telling me that the BMW Assist is still active for another 5 months (just bought the car used). The car is not under the regular warranty, but is still under "Full Maintance". When I press the SOS button I get the SOS screen but no bars next to the little antenna on the iDrive screen (I have navigation). After about five minutes I have the option to "cancel the emergency call", which is all I can do.

Any idea why this would not work? I have also tried setting up bluetooth through my cell phone and everything works fine with that... I can place calls through my cell phone connection perfectly... but the BMW assist is not working. Please help me out... my local dealer said they'd charge to look at it... and I'm looking to stay low budget....

Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you thought of calling BMW Assist to ask them if they have any ideas or if your service is even active.

It sounds to me as if the TCU has been deactivated based on your description.

P.S. You left the low budget strata when you bought a BMW that is not under warranty. Sorry.

Only one other thing I can think of? Maybe there is no reception with BMW Assist from wherever you are.

What state are you in? Near a metropolitan area?

Hey JSpira, I don't think it's a reception issue simply because I'm right in the midde of a huge metropolitan area (Philadelphia), it must be something else...

...are you suggesting I call BMW assist from a landline phone to ask for help? I guess that number could be found in my documentation for the car?

In 2004, BMW Assist was only offered for one year. It is only on all 2007 Models where 4 years in included. So, if you have a flat tire or so you have to call Roadside Assistance manually. This is why the SOS Button would not work. Hope this helps!

Oh, that's new to me... so if my 2004 model had only one year included, then I wonder why is it that BMW service history states that I have the service for a few more months? Maybe the original owner extended the service, could that be the case?

I think there may be a technical reason why my SOS button isn't working... if I could only find a way to troubleshoot it... anyone have any more ideas as how to troubleshoot it?

Try going into the communication menu and click on dial customer service (Try reaching BMW assist from the car)
