Something about CIC (Car Infotainment Computer)
#1
The new information system will refer to CIC (Car Infotainment Computer)
As you have understood, it comes in exchange ССС (Car Communication Computer)
It will be installed on cars 5,6 , 7 (?) , 1 , 3 series since September, 2008 (if all in time will be in time). Х5 and х6 will receive CIC since March, 2009 (ИМХО hurrying up to purchase х6 now – it is necessary to reflect).
Principal cause: ССС from VDO-Siemens has not arranged on productivity, and to support(maintain) 2 platforms very hard (as I understand them). Therefore BMW passes to the uniform productive decision from Becker. Want all test up to an release of new 7 and 5 series.
So, the basic innovations:
1. The system will receive 40 гигабайтный a hard disk. Its volume will be allocated as follows:
2 gig system area
3 gig under music
8 gig for Entertainmentserver
12 gig for navigation
10 gig for telephone contacts
The rest - a reserve
Navigation charts now will be filled in (most likely) through the dealer equipment on a hard disk (greetings to pirates)
Telephone contacts will support high-grade v-card (i.e. with addresses, e-mail addresses, etc.)
2. The new qualitative monitor with good parameters of brightness\contrast and the resolution 1280x480 pixels
3. An opportunity of reproduction DVD of disks of the Zone 2 (Europe). Accordingly in CIC there is one drive DVD
4. The improved language management of all car
5. The new menu (a question on its structure?)
6. USB port in glovebox. It is used only for download music in a mediaserver
7. The new controller of management (about horror, this quantity of buttons.....)
8. On most CIC there are 8 buttons. But 6 from them now 1-2-3-4-5-6 , and still MODE and TP (as on American LCI е60)
9. Support EDGE and UMTS (the high-speed Internet)
10. Displaying image NightVision (night vision) on HeadUp Display is possible(probable)
11. (probably) support of Russian (oh my God, has come to pass)
Here so all facilities will look
on е60 (attention, that a screenshot from configurator BMW)
And here so on е90
All has stated as has understood, if there are corrections/additions - shall be glad

The configurator photo looks like the current E60 but with new iDrive.

10 gig for telephone contacts? Wow, that's a huge amount!
But this post does capture pretty much what I've heard.

Ja, I heard that figure also (I'm writing an article on this based on pits and pieces I've picked up) and that sounds like too much.

The only thing I can think of is that they're allowing for full .jpg photos of each contact to be available on the screen...
I've been seeing stuff on this on German boards since mid April and last week mysteriously received details on the CIC (not that different than what was posted here, I was relieved to see).
I've since put it into an article at http://stage.bmwcca.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1954
